Care & Maintenance Instructions for Quake Table
Now that you are the proud owner of a Quake Table, here are some simple instructions for care and maintenance.
Our bases are made from 100% Canadian aluminum and are powder-coated to ensure they have a long life if treated with care. Ideally, we recommend using a damp cloth to dust and clean the surface.
Based on hand-drawn images and water-jet cut from aluminum, some edges of the patterning may be sharper than others. Take special care with children as small fingers may like to explore the crevices and indentations of the patterns and could be pinched. For this reason, we do not recommend placing the Quake Table in areas that would have children left unattended.
Douglas Fir Top
Our Douglas Fir is sourced from certified and sustainable wood suppliers in British Columbia. Our Douglas Fir top is stained in a clear coat and is easy to maintain with thoughtful care.
Wood will naturally change colour over time, however, to maintain an even aging process, allow your new table top to remain free from any surface objects for about 48 hours. This allows the wood to absorb the natural light of the location and calibrate itself to its new surroundings.
Placing wet objects or sharp items may damage the finish or mar the surface; we recommend using coasters with drinks and being cautious with other items.
When cleaning the top, run a duster or slightly damp soft cloth in the direction of the grain. This will prevent scratches or other marks. Wood cleaner or any other ‘wood products’ are not necessary.
Max Marble Top
Our beautiful marble is quarried on Northern Vancouver Island. It has been polished to show off its natural grain and pattern. There are no sealers used on the marble, as we at Quake like the feel and simplicity of allowing the material to age naturally. Although Max Marble is a dense and heavy stone, it can stain if not treated with care. Acidic liquids, such as red wine, can damage the finish, so we ask that you wipe off any spills, immediately, with a damp cloth. Or, if you miss the moment, chalk it up to a great party!
Black Flint MDF
Our MDF is sourced from certified and sustainable forest companies in British Columbia, and cut and finished in Vancouver. Our special finish has a wonderful matte texture and should be treated as a wood surface. Placing wet objects or sharp items may damage the finish or mar the surface, so we recommend using coasters with drinks and being cautious with other items. When cleaning the top, run a duster or slightly damp soft cloth over the surface to bring it back to its original finish.
